Junior Rugby Overview

The Junior Rugby Section of Greystones RFC is an integral part of the Club.  It is a vibrant and successful section of the club with a history of competing at the highest level of Junior Rugby and winning trophies in their respective league and cup competitions.

It provides an important link for players coming up from the Youth Section of the Club to integrate into the adult arena of rugby life.  It has also provided many players to the Senior Team over the years who have come up from the Youth Section and improved their game learning from the more experienced players that now enjoy the more social and fun side of the game.
Training
This season sees a departure of our traditional training nights of Monday and Wednesday to Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  This is thanks to the new pitch lighting that has been erected this September.  For this the Junior Section wish to express our thanks to those responsible for getting the lights to the club as long has Monday night training been the bane of Junior Rugby.  This years coaches are once again the ever youthful Mick Murray Snr and the ever vocal Mark Finnerty.
Goals
This Season we aim to be competitive in all leagues and cups and a return to the trophy winning ways that we are used to.  Last season was the first in a long time that we did not manage to win a competition, which was disappointing when compared to all the recent seasons preceding it that provided such good hauls of trophies.
Touring
The Junior Section enjoys a great tradition of rugby tours and have travelled far and wide over the years.  Tours have mainly been to other clubs around the country but in recent times have ventured to rugby competitions in Spain on 3 separate occasions.  Last season saw a well organised tour to Westport that all who travelled enjoyed immensely.  Another tour is being planned for the end of this season and fundraising events will be scheduled throughout the year and any support is most gratefully appreciated.
