Three trips to Munster over the last six weeks resulting in three away wins for Greystones  and they have also recorded their fifth back to back win in the AIL  with a 14 -19 win over Old Crescent last Saturday afternoon.  A great way to go into the Christmas break in the AIL and it leaves Stones in a strong position for the second half of the campaign which commences at home to Midleton on 28^th January.

Sebastian Caldwell once again delivered two tries in five minutes early on in the game. Andrew Kealy set up the first try when his released Sebastian up the right wing to touch down and in a repeat minutes later on the left wing Ronan Carroll having crossed the gain line made great yards and passed to Sebastian to give him a clear run to the line. The visitors were much the stronger team despite being challenged up front and looked like they would have a solid lead at the break when Old Crescent winger Graham O’Keeffe found a gap in the Stones defence to touch down for a try with a penalty added before half time this left the score at 8-12 to Stones at half time.

Old Crescent made a strong start to the second half and out-half Shane Mullaley added three points from a penalty kick five minutes into the second half. Centre Simon Malone added a third try for Stones close to the posts on the hour duly converted by the trusty boot of Andrew Kealy. The visitors then went in search a bonus point and despite applying a lot of pressure and several trips to the Old Crescent 22 they were stopped just short of the line. The home side ensured a tense finish to the game when having being awarded a penalty with ten minutes to go found touch in the Stones 22 and applied a lot of pressure for the last ten minutes. Full credit to a very efficient and disciplined defensive display from Stones to absorb the pressure. There was great relief from the travelling Greystones supporters when the home side knocked-on and the ref blow the full time whistle. A well earned 14 – 19 win on the road.

Greystones play in the final of the Leinster Shield in Donnybrook next Saturday 17^th December with a 1pm kick-off. Come along and support your team.
