Greystones RFC had the honour of being the first team to play on the new pitch at the opening of the new sports pavilion and rugby pitch at Queens University Belfast for round 3 of the Ulster Bank AIL. This is a very impressive new facility which will inspire all who play there and Queens welcomed some rugby legends Cecil Pedlow, Jack Kyle and David Humphreys to join in the celebrationsnning
Greystones had hoped to spoil the party for the students but it did not go their way as Queens proved the stronger side on the day winning by 30 to 11. Queens open their account early on with a drop goal with Stones drawing back level half way through the first quarter with a converted penalty from Andrew Kealy. Queens converted their first try on the quarter hour to lead 10 – 3. Greystones added another penalty to two from Queens to see the home side lead 16 -6 at half time.

The rain came in for the second half but the sun was shining for Queens with an early converted try shortly after the restart. Simon Malone spared the blushes for Stones with an excellent saving tackle as Queens centre broke up the wing minutes later. Queens piled on the pressure when Michael McAuley found a gap in the Stones defence to touch down under the posts. The visitors dug deep for the last quarter and found themselves in strong attacking positions in the Queens 22 but the defence wall was solid. Burschi Wojnar came off the bench and did eventually find a small gap to score a try leaving the full time score at 30 - 11
