Ulster Bank League Division 2A
Terenure College RFC 8 Greystones RFC 6.
Played: Saturday 4th February 2012
Venue: Lakelands Park
Penalties: Andrew Kealy (2)
Greystones six match winning run came to an end at Lakelands Park last Saturday in round 10 of the AIL as Terenure College held off the pressure from the visiting side to secure the win by 8 points to 6. The weather was not kind to players or spectators and the rain ensured the pitch was very heavy and wet.
Terenure opened the scoring on the quarter hour breaking free of the Stones defence to cross in the corner. The only other score came from a penalty for Terenure on half time giving the advantage at the break 8 points to 0.
Stones opened their account early in the second half with three points from the boot of Andrew Kealy from a penalty for an infringement from Terenure. Despite playing with determination it was not to be Stones day as a further penalty kick from Kealy came back off the posts and a great break up the wing by Ronan Carroll was deemed to be in touch and the try not allowed. Stones earned another penalty on 75 minutes and Kealy closed the gap to 8 points to 6 but they could find a way through in the last minutes and the final whistle to the relief of Terenure gave them the victory.
Despite this set-back Greystones are still fourth in the league and with five matches to go it is still all to play for. Greystones take on Corinthians next on Saturday 18th February at Dr Hickey Park in what promises to be a very glamorous day as we also welcome the Ladies to the annual Ladies Day lunch.
