Banbridge opened the scoring early on with a successful penalty kick after five minutes of play. Greystones responded five minutes later when after good attacking play Simon Malone crossed the line to score a try. Banbridge responded a few minutes later with another penalty. Greystones regained the advantage from the re-start with Andrew Kealy going over for his first try of the afternoon splitting open the Banbridge defence. Greystones held on well despite Banbridge turning the ball over on a number of occasions but were rewarded on the half hour with another penalty. Greystones opened the second half in a very positive manner with Ben Armstrong scoring a try under the posts and Andrew Kealy securing the conversion. Andrew Kealy was to star again ten minutes later when James Power delivered a cross field kick with Andrew finding himself with a clear run to the line and he out-paced the Banbridge defence to run the eighty meters to score his second try of the day and give Greystones a try scoring bonus point. The winning post was in sight for Greystones to bring home a bonus point victory and strengthen the challenge for promotion but Banbridge had different ideas. With ten minutes to go they successfully kicked a penalty to leave them trailing by six points. Greystones were unable to hold onto the ball while Banbridge were rewarded for their attacking efforts with a try under the posts when converted gave them a one point lead with four minutes on the clock.
Greystones fought on and threatened the Banbridge line getting within inches and in a last gasp attempt at a drop goal that just went wide brought the game to an end for a stunned Greystones.
Speaking after the match Reggie Corrigan Head Coach for Greystones, articulated his disappointment at the result but went on to say that he was happy with the way the team played and kept fighting for the win till the final whistle. Reggie confirmed that they would still be pushing hard to achieve promotion to Division 2.
