Green Team

Despite kicking off, Greystones immediately came under sustained pressure from a determined Wicklow side who retained possession well and ran strongly. Greystones however defended resolutely and took the lead against the run of play when Liam Lupton Smith scored a try in the corner following a good counter attack. Further tries followed from Mick O’Gara and a fine individual effort from Sean O’Brien who beat several defenders on a 50m run to the line to leave the half time score at 3-0. The second half commenced with Greystones beginning to take control but penalties conceded at ruck time began to mount and from one of these Wicklow scored a try from a close in drive. From the kick off, Greystones went on the attack and following some fine interplay between backs and forwards Max Neville scored a try taking a pop pass close to the line and touching down. Greystones controlled the remainder of the game but were unable to add to their score due to good tackling from a brave Wicklow team.

This was a hard, physical game against tough opposition but a solid scrum and line out allied to a strong performance in the loose and resolute defence saw the team through.
