Try: Mario Di Tofano, Oran James, Danny McManus x2, Peter Sullivan, Reuban Breetveld
Conv: Peter Sullivan x3, Oran James x2
Our first match of the season was a home match against Blackrock in very windy conditions. The match was arranged as a friendly match played in 3 20 minute periods with a roll on roll off substitute system where every player got some game time.
The first third was a very tight match, with Blackrock playing a tight game into the wind. They scored an early try from a pick and go off a scrum on the Greystones 5m line. Straight from the restart Blackrock came attacking again but the Greystones team put on a great defensive performance, with some huge hits and great tackling to keep Blackrock from scoring any more points.
Down by only 5 points starting the second period, we made 13 changes to the starting team and almost straight from the kick off we were in front! With some fantastic rucking and great attacking flair we ran in 4 tries, scored by Mario, Oran, Danny and Peter with 3 of these converted superbly by Peter, especially into the wind! This meant we started the third quarter 26-5 ahead! This period started with 14 men each after a few injuries were picked up in what was a hugely physical match. We again made more changes and we pushed further ahead with 2 more tries from Danny and Reuban both converted by Oran!
This game was a fantastic start to the season for our squad. Congratulations to each and every member of the squad who preformed fantastically. We would especially like to thank the players who we asked to play in new positions. Finally we would like to thank all the mums who provided sandwiches, tea and coffee up in the bar for us after the match, it was greatly appreciated!!
