Match Report Greystones v Barnhall Sunday 27th Nov
Greystones 19 Barnhall 17

Tries: P Sullivan x3
Conv:P Sullivan x2

Our trip to Barnhall for our first away leinster league match of the season started early on Sunday morning.

Greystones started into the pace of the match very well scoing two quick tries. The first try was scored by Peter Sullivan after a smart passing move resulting in winger Danny McManus breaking down the left and offloading to Sully to score out wide. 5 - 0 Stones. Our second try came a few minutes later, following some great work at the breakdown and strong defence leading to a turnover which Sully pounced on to break clear and score, he also added the conversion, 12 - 0 Stones. Greystones came straight on the attack from the restart and continued to put Barnhall under all sorts of pressure resulting in our forwards turning over 2 scrums against the head, a huge reward to our front row of Mario Di Tofano, Aaron Byrne (Cpt) and Oisin Dougan. Following some great support play from the pack we attacked the Barnhall line but our second row Mark Kenny was held up short of the line after some last gasp Barnhall defence just before half time.

We started the second half a bit slow and let Barnhall back into the game with 2 quick tries, suddenly it was 12-12. Barnhall scored another try from a penalty move leaving the score 17 - 12. Following an honest team talk behind the posts we started to come back into the game led by our all hitting, ball carrying back row of Evan Farrelly, Stefan Doyle and Reuban Breetveld. Our defence stood up strong and stopped every attack that Barnhall threw at us. The tone was set for the final part of the match after a bone crunching tackling from our hard hitting out half Oran James. We continued to push for our third try of the morning and in the final minute of the game, our scrum half Jack Megannety yet again dug the ball out from the base of a ruck and following some good hand by our centers Conor o Reilly and Mark Crowley, the ball was passed to Sully who had come into the line from fullback to dance down the wing to score under the posts. With the game tied at 17 - 17 with the final kick to come, Sully stepped up and nailed the kick, Stones win 19 - 17.

Special mention has to go to Bruce Thomas who was seriously injured in the warm up for the seconds match. We all hope the Brucie recovers quickly from the collar bone injury and is back with our squad as soon as possible, our entire squad wishes Bruice all the best.

Greystones 40 Blackrock 5 U14 9th October 11

Try:    Mario Di Tofano, Oran James, Danny McManus x2, Peter Sullivan, Reuban Breetveld

Conv: Peter Sullivan x3, Oran James x2

Our first match of the season was a home match against Blackrock in very windy conditions. The match was arranged as a friendly match played in 3 20 minute periods with a roll on roll off substitute system where every player got some game time.

The first third was a very tight match, with Blackrock playing a tight game into the wind. They scored an early try from a pick and go off a scrum on the Greystones 5m line. Straight from the restart Blackrock came attacking again but the Greystones team put on a great defensive performance, with some huge hits and great tackling to keep Blackrock from scoring any more points.

Down by only 5 points starting the second period, we made 13 changes to the starting team and almost straight from the kick off we were in front! With some fantastic rucking and great attacking flair we ran in 4 tries, scored by Mario, Oran, Danny and Peter with 3 of these converted superbly by Peter, especially into the wind! This meant we started the third quarter 26-5 ahead! This period started with 14 men each after a few injuries were picked up in what was a hugely physical match. We again made more changes and we pushed further ahead with 2 more tries from Danny and Reuban both converted by Oran!

This game was a fantastic start to the season for our squad. Congratulations to each and every member of the squad who preformed fantastically. We would especially like to thank the players who we asked to play in new positions. Finally we would like to thank all the mums who provided sandwiches, tea and coffee up in the bar for us after the match, it was greatly appreciated!!

Trial Match 2nd October

On Sunday the 2nd of October we played a trial match between our squad. We picked two evenly matched teams from with the purpose of this game to see just how far we have comes following our preseason training and first few weeks of the regular season.

We played the game in 4 quarters, making changes at the end of each quarter. The game was played at a great intensity, spirit and passion and each player gave a very good account of himself.
