Played in appalling conditions in Stradbrook the firsts went down 17 – 8 to Blackrock on Friday night allowing the hosts move above us at the foot of the AIL Div 2A table. Greystones opened brightly with an Andrew Kealy penalty followed by a well taken Jack Keating try for an 8 – 0 lead but with our scrum under pressure all evening Blackrock earned a penalty try and broke our defence five minutes from time for a crucial score to deny the bonus point.
Elsewhere on Friday the thirds suffered a narrow defeat away to Wanderers losing 17 -15 with scores by Ken Dwyer and Iain McMahon plus a conversion and penalty by Brendan Boyle.
On Sunday the U20’s had an emphatic 51 – 10 home win over Buchaneers scoring nine tries in the process with two from Nick Quirk, and one each from Ben Carolan, Sam Kenny, Stephen Bourke, Conor Curran, Ronan Mannion, Mark Myler and Shane Marmion.
Also on Sunday the Womens team travelled to Clontarf losing 31 -15. Greystones had led 10 – 5 at half time but let in the home side for late scores putting a gloss on the result. Captain Janet Roper score twice and Rachel Byrne picking up the third try.
