City of Armagh 30 – 26 Greystones
In a pulsating opening encounter in this years Ulster Bank league Greystones went down 30 -26 to fellow promotion rivals from last season Armagh. Conceding two tries in the first ten minutes and allowing Armagh build up a 17 point lead was always going to leave a hill to climb but led by Andrew Kealy we fought our way back in to the game to lead with ten minutes to play only to lose out at the death to a penalty try.
Jack Keating started the fight back with a brilliantly taken try after Kealy split the home defence with a great break through the middle. This was added to two Kealy penalties either side of the try to leave the score 23 – 13 at the break. Second half dominance brought another converted try scored by Robin O’Sullivan and a penalty by Killian Marmion to push Stones into a three point lead but we were struggling all afternoon against a dominant Armagh pack who punished us at the end with a penalty try conceded after a series of five meter scrums.
Next Saturday we face Galway Corinthians at home, kick off 2:30pm. Book your pre-match lunch now by calling the club on 2874640 and leaving a message for Justin who will get back to you.
